We offer a variety of experiences for medical students.

Third year students can rotate with our department for their outpatient FM or inpatient IM clerkship, depending on their school’s requirements. During this rotation, students work closely with residents and faculty at our office/hospital and gain exposure to multiple aspects of family medicine, including adult internal medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, and obstetrics.

We also offer sub-internships/audition rotations for fourth year students. The application process is through VSAS. Traditionally, this includes 2 weeks in the office, 1 week of inpatient, and 1 week of labor & delivery, but we are able to adjust this if your school has different requirements. During this rotations, students function at the level of an intern. This includes but isn’t limited to returning pages, doing admissions, and responding to codes/RATs/septic shock alerts. Students are also exposed to/can assist with a variety of procedures and gain access to critical care management.

All rotating students also participate in our Wednesday afternoon didactics.

We also have limited opportunity for 1st and 2nd year medical students to gain exposure to all that family medicine has to provide!
