Shelby Bridgett, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Shelby Bridgett, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Shelby is originally from Bloomington, Indiana. She is a first-generation college student and graduated from Indiana University. While at IU, she studied Kinesiology and Nutrition. Then, she moved to Columbus, Ohio where she worked as an Exercise Physiologist and Pharmacy Technician. Shelby later completed her medical education at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine – Dublin.

Shelby knew early on that Family Medicine was the only specialty for her. Family medicine offers so many opportunities to prevent and treat diseases, form long-term relationships with patients, perform procedures, and much more! It is the perfect specialty to apply her passions for wellness, disease prevention, and health education. Shelby immediately felt the #grantlove during her Sub-I rotation in her 4th year of medical school. She was inspired by the compassion, dedication, and extensive knowledge of the faculty and residents. She was also drawn to Grant’s commitment to broad-spectrum medicine, underserved populations, diversity, and innovation.

Outside of medicine, Shelby enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 dogs, tending her vegetable garden and indoor plants, and traveling. She loves to be outside as much as possible, especially taking walks in the metro parks, hiking, or relaxing on a patio.

Sarah Burns, MD - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Sarah Burns, MD (she/her) - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Sarah was born in Pittsburgh, PA as the oldest of three sisters, who she remains incredibly close to. She stayed in Pittsburgh to earn her B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also dabbled in art, statistics, and Russian literature. During that time, she worked as a member of the administrative staff within the Pitt Graduate School of Public Health. After graduation, she joined her younger sisters in Columbus to pursue her medical education at the Ohio State University. Sarah is delighted to be a member of the Grant team for the next several years of residency.

Sarah became interested in Family Medicine during her medical school education after a period of indecision, and that choice was solidified for her when she did a rotation at Grant. She loved the comradery of the entire team, the passion for patient advocacy, and the constant pursuit of learning not for one’s own sake but for the sake of the community as a whole. She is so excited to join a team so dedicated to community care and advocacy and can’t wait to laugh and grow with the rest of the team. Sarah is particularly interested in LGBTQ+ care, in particular gender affirming care, addiction medicine, and reproductive health.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys curling up with a book on a rainy day with her cat, Charlie, and her partner, Tyler. She loves being a homebody, including cooking, baking and tending to her newly acquired garden, but when she’s forced to leave the house she loves hiking with her partner, exploring all the outdoor markets that Columbus has to offer, and visiting with her large extended family. During the pandemic, she regressed back to her art school days, and additionally took up sewing and embroidery, which helped her occupy the long days spent at home, and which she hopes to keep exploring during residency.

Liza Haggenjos, DO (she/her) - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Liza grew up in rural Indiana. She graduated with a degree in Biology from Denison University, then attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia.

Liza was drawn to Grant because of its strong obstetric training, commitment to underserved populations, and full-spectrum family medicine. She was excited to become a part of the community of care Grant fosters and train in a didactic environment where care quality is unparalleled. Liza knew that by choosing Grant, she would join a rigorous, well-rounded care team that would enable her to become the confident, effective family physician she is aspiring to be.

In her free time, Liza enjoys knitting, trying new restaurants, traveling, exploring new baking techniques, cooking new recipes, and watching movies. She is excited to be a part of the Grant family!

Marisa Iaderosa, MD (she/they) - Wayne State School of Medicine

Marisa was born and raised in Michigan. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan studying Sociology. After graduating, she worked at a Federally Qualified Health Center as a Patient Advocate. She continued her education at Wayne State University School of Medicine (in Detroit, MI) and completed her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education.

Marisa was drawn to the specialty of Family Medicine because of the unique opportunities to create meaningful and lasting relationships with patients at all stages of life and to address health disparities in underserved communities. She also has a particular interest in addiction, behavioral health, LGBTQ+ care, health equity, community medicine, and advocacy. Marisa was drawn to Grant initially because of the alignment of their curriculum with her personal interests; she chose this program because of the clear investment and support from faculty, staff, and co-residents (and their obvious ability to have fun together!).

Outside of medicine, Marisa enjoys reading, spending time outside, cooking, hiking with her dog, rock climbing, and catching up with friends and family over food or coffee.

Aubrey Jones, DO - Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

Aubrey Jones, DO (she/her) - Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

Aubrey is originally from Salisbury, Maryland (Go Ravens!), but she has spent time up and down the east coast. For undergrad, she went to Lafayette College to study Biology and Africana Studies. She also played fullback and fly-half on her rugby team all four years. To complement her thesis work and pursue her passion of reducing recidivism, she took a gap year to work in a men’s correctional facility in northern Florida. Aubrey then went to medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Carolina.

Aubrey chose Family Medicine to accommodate her vast interests. She has passions for addiction medicine, LGBTQ+ healthcare, reproductive health, and correctional medicine. From the first time Aubrey read through the faculty’s and residents’ bios on Grant’s website, she knew Grant would be the perfect fit for her! Grant’s dedication to her passions and their supportive environment made it a no brainer. Aubrey is also considering a fellowship in addiction medicine, so the strong training in addiction medicine and the possibility of staying at Grant for their fellowship further solidified her choice.

In her free time, Aubrey loves to spend time on trails and hikes with her dog, working out, baking new sweets, rewatching One Tree Hill, cheering the Ravens on and spending time with friends and family.

Cheyenne Jones, MD - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Cheyenne Jones, MD (she/her) - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Cheyenne grew up near Dayton, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University for both undergrad and medical school (Go Bucks!). She loved pretty much every rotation in medical school and was drawn to family medicine given the broad scope of practice, emphasis on preventive care, and opportunity to provide care to underserved communities. Cheyenne’s interests in medicine include LGBTQ+ care, community medicine, and addiction medicine. She ultimately chose Grant after experiencing the culture and getting to know the people while rotating as a medical student. Once she saw how the residents and faculty were not only amazingly skilled physicians but wonderful and passionate humans, she knew this was the only place she wanted to train. Also, Columbus has a lot to offer and is a great city to live in!

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time in nature by kayaking and hiking local trails. She also loves round loom knitting, baking, exploring new restaurants/breweries/wineries, and spending time with family.

Trisha Kwarko, MS/MD (she/her) - University of Connecticut School of Medicine

Trisha was born and raised in the Bronx, New York.  She has lived in Ghana, Ohio, and Connecticut growing up.  She earned her BS in Allied Health Science and MS in Biomedical Science at the University of Connecticut.  Since undergrad, she has been interested in serving humanity through medicine, especially in underserved communities. She traveled with Global Medical Brigades to Ghana where she was introduced to the idea of primary and preventative medicine. During medical school, she further explored these interested with Urban Service Track where she learned the importance of being a resourceful physician to serve in the community.

She was drawn to family medicine at Grant because of the opportunity to train in full spectrum family medicine with the options of further training in Areas of Concentrations. Currently, her interest is in hospital medicine. She envisions becoming a physician who educates and empowers her patients to understand their medical conditions and engage with a primary care home to maintain their health.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at home binging trending Netflix shows, YouTube comedy, and learning how to trade on the stock market. She also enjoys some competitive fun with friends.

Megan Martinez, DO (she/her) - Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University

Megan Martinez was raised in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Psychology. She then moved to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to teach middle school science through Teach For America. After teaching in SD, she taught in Phoenix, AZ for 3 years. She then graduated from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Her time teaching and learning from her students is what lead her to family medicine. She believes the breadth of family medicine will help her to better address many of the disparities in medicine, like those her students frequently experienced. Megan is passionate about building strong, lasting relationships with her patients. She is interested in reproductive health, OB care, and breastfeeding medicine but really did choose family medicine because she loves it all! Megan chose Grant because of their strong focus on full spectrum training and the amazing culture that showed even through virtual interviews. She also really valued the emphasis they placed on training their residents in diversity and inclusion. She feels Grant is the perfect program to prepare her to impact the communities in need, like the ones her students call home.

While living in South Dakota, Megan met her now husband, Ben, while he was playing in a band. He was stationed in SD while in the Air Force. They enjoy live music and comedy! They now have an incredibly busy and joyful toddler named Ezra! Megan enjoys exploring the neighborhood and local parks with her family. She enjoys cooking and baking. Shaina Rood, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Shaina Rood, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Shaina is a proud second-generation family physician from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, an eastside suburb of Cleveland. Prior to med school, she spent time as a music major at Miami University, got her MPH in health policy at George Washington University, and lived in DC for seven years working for the State and Federal governments. Her favorite experience was being part of the incredible team at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services responsible for implementing core pieces of the Affordable Care Act, such as the Health Insurance Exchanges and building Healthcare.gov. Her path pointed toward medical school so she could combine her health policy knowledge with clinical medicine to help people better navigate the health care system. She moved back home to Cleveland to pursue medical school at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine- Cleveland.

In medical school, she figured out that she LOVES family medicine. She loves the continuity, being able to see people of all ages and concerns, and the profession’s rich history of advocacy and social justice. She became involved with the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and attended the AAFP National Conference. She seemed to find the wonderful people at Grant Family Medicine Residency doing great things everywhere she looked. She was attracted to the supportive and kind people, broad scope of training, and engagement of the program at the state and national level.

Her interests are many at this point, but she hopes to learn more about behavioral health, women’s health, chronic disease management, and of course, health policy. She hopes to one day join a practice with her Dad—truly putting the “family” in family medicine. Outside of medicine, she enjoys exploring tea shops with her mom and three sisters, traveling the world, taking naps, and caring for her peace plant, Alfredo.

Spencer Schell, MD - Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University

Spencer Schell, MD (he/him) - Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University

Spencer was born and raised in Katonah, NY, about two hours north of New York City. He went to Bucknell University for undergrad, where he double majored in history and biology, before going to Stony Brook University for medical school.

After several work and volunteer experiences in medicine during undergrad, from a rural emergency department to neonatology, Spencer came to realize that being a family physician embodied what he sought in a medical career. He was drawn to family medicine for the opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with patients while exercising a wide breadth of knowledge and skills. This was only affirmed during medical school.

Spencer has been interested in Grant since he began to consider his path after medical school. Grant’s incredible faculty, residents, supportive environment, and embrace of advocacy and rigorous training were key contributors in deciding Grant was the place for him.

Beyond Grant itself, Spencer fell in love with the city of Columbus when his wife started graduate school at Ohio State in 2017.

Outside of medicine, Spencer enjoys being in the outdoors, listening to news and history podcasts, watching sci-fi shows, biking, and house projects. His favorite way to spend a day off is with a long bike ride on the Olentangy Trail, planting whatever could be found at Lowe’s, then trying a new restaurant (takeout) with his wife, Kait, while being enviously watched by their dog, Jersey, and their cat, Coleman.
